“There are no days more beloved to Allah that He be worshipped in them than the ten days of Dhul-Hijjah; fasting every day of them is the equivalent of fasting a year, and standing every night of them (in prayer) is the equivalent of standing on the Night of Qadr.”
[Tirmidhi]
The Day of Arafah falls on the ninth day of Dhul-Hijjah. It is a highly recommended sunnah of the Prophet Muhammad (SAW) to fast on this day. The reward for fasting on the Day of Arafah is that the fast expiates the sins of the past year as well as any sins of the upcoming year [Muslim]. We should try our best to fast and to make dua for Allah’s mercy on the Day of Arafah.
The Prophet Muhammad (SAW) said, “There is no day on which Allah frees more people from the Fire than on the day of ‘Arafah.” [Muslim]
This Eid is known for being the Eid of sacrifice, or Qurbani. This is an Islamic tradition carried out by Prophet Muhammad (SAW). After the Eid prayer, a sacrifice is made, which completes the Eid Al-Adha ritual. For those who are participating in Qurbani, cutting of hair, nails, or shaving is not permitted from the beginning of Dhul-Hijjah until after the Eid prayer has been completed. The meat from the sacrifice is then shared with family, friends, and the needy.
“At least one third of the meat from the animal must go to poor or vulnerable people. Traditionally, a Muslim would keep one third of the meat for their family and give the final third to their neighbours.” [IRUSA]
We are happy to partner with irusa.org for Qurbani this year.
